Gran Canaria: Sun, sea, beach and… Eurocast! In a two-year cycle the International Conference on Computer Aided Systems Theory takes place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital city of the atlanic island. SFL was there to contribute.

Eurocast has been a conference with a multidisciplinary character ever since it started in 1989. Workshop topics range from Systems Theory and Applications over Deep Learning, to Signal and Pattern Analysis, CyberMedical systems etc. Beside the theoretical aspects of new ideas and developments, Eurocast’s organizers emphasize the importance of practicle applications, which makes it a perfect event for Smart Factory Lab. Hence, we contributed a novel evaluation methodology for symbolic regression models with a strong focus on its applicability for Predictive Maintenance (PdM) to the workshop “Theory and Applications of Metaheuristic Algorithms”. The work with the title “Sliding Window Symbolic Regression for Predictive Maintenance using Model Ensembles” has been prepared for the last couple of weeks and aims at the real-time detection of abnormal (potentially erroneous) system behavior. It will be part of the conference proceedings, published in Springer LNCS 2017.

Las Canteras

Since a couple of years the conference is hosted at the technical museum, Museo Elder de la Ciencie y la Tecnologia, a site close to the beautiful beach Las Canteras. Although Februray is not exactly the best time to exploit the full comfort of such a destination, it is certainly more pleasant than deep winter at the homebase in Austria. Beside the conference program I had the chance to spend some spare time with my fellow colleagues of HEAL as well as with other conference attendees, having interesting chats while exploring the city and a little bit of canarian culture.

Long story short: There’s probably no better place to progress on our research in February - already looking forward to join Eurocast 2019!
